Lyrics

I sit here in lock up, just ‘cross the state line
For sellin’ home brew whiskey, tryin’ to make a dime
I call my ol’ lady, Come get me from jail
She ain’t got no money, she can’t go my bail

Chorus: Bring your donations, down to the country store
If you can’t save me from prison, I can’t bring you your whiskey no more.

The judge she done told me, got to do my time.
’cause I broke probation; sellin’shine.
Call me Popcorn Sutton. Don’t put heat on me
’cause I might blow my top, if the judge won’t set me free.

If you can’t save me from prison, I can’t bring you your whiskey no more.

Story Behind the Song:
Popcorn Sutton was a famous moonshiner in the NC/TN mountains. In the early 2000’s he was arrested in NC for parole violation, and a lot of mountain folk were trying to raise money for his legal fund.
